Candidate Statement for Director, El Camino Healthcare District
Our community is facing a public health crisis of unprecedented proportions. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted both the physical and mental health of our families and neighbors - especially our youth, seniors, essential workers, and vulnerable populations. As the only mental health professional and community activist in the race, I will serve as a long-needed and invaluable asset to the board.
As a Clinical Psychologist, I've come to know our diverse community deeply and understand the many mental health challenges we face. I am running because this experience has made clear to me how our broken mental health care system made this novel coronavirus exceptionally crippling. If we want our district to respond to these struggles, then it is necessary to elect board members who have mental health expertise and the community advocacy background to get the job done.
Community First:
As your district representative, I pledge to take a much more proactive role in prioritizing our community’s health when collecting and redistributing our taxpayer dollars, and to engage our local, regional, and state policymakers to fix the broken areas of our healthcare system.
Prioritizing Mental Health:
I will address our youth's mental health crisis by increasing mental health services in our schools. I will partner with city leaders to reimagine emergency response for those experiencing a mental health crisis.
Protecting Workers:
I will address healthcare worker burnout and retention by assuring safe working conditions through improved communication between hospital administrators and workers, and create support programs for workers experiencing emotional stress from fighting this pandemic.
I am supported by a diverse group of individuals including doctors, nurses, youth, parents, and healthcare workers. I am endorsed by progressive organizations and leaders, including Fmr. State Assemblymember Sally Lieber and the High School Democrats of America Progressive Association.
With your vote, I’ll fight for the needed solutions to match the crisis we face. Visit VoteDrMeghan.com to join our team, learn more about my vision and share anything important to you. I'm always ready to listen.
